Everyone wants to be well-respected at their place of work, but ironically, many unconsciously ruin their reputation by doing things that would make them less respected.
It’s important to be respected everywhere you go and it’s your actions or your behaviour that would win people’s respect.
These tips would make you respected in your workplace if strictly adhered to.
1. AVOID OFFICE POLITICS AND RUMOURS
Office politics are found in almost every workplace, and you can never win people’s respect if you are involved in office politics. Also, avoid gossips and spreading rumours in your workplace. Integrity is highly important if you want to win people’s respect.
2. DO WHAT YOU SAY
People would respect you more when you are a person of your words. When you practice what you preach, then you would easily win people’s respect. However, if you say something and do the other, you lose people’s respect.
3. BE GENUINELY INTERESTED IN PEOPLE
People would respect you more when they know that you are genuinely interested in their affairs. However, you would lose their respect when you are hypocritical.
4. LISTEN MORE
Everyone loves a good listener, but not everyone appreciates a talkative. You learn more from listening than from talking, and you show that you are genuinely interested in someone when you listen more and talk less.
5. SHOW GRATITUDE
Appreciate the little things that a colleague does for you. Learn to show appreciation no matter how little it is. Appreciation shows value, and people would respect you more when you appreciate them.
6. SELF-CONFIDENCE
Self-confidence is also important if you want to win the respect of your colleagues at work. Believe in yourself and build a good self-esteem; it would be easier for people to have that confidence in you and respect for you when they know that you have self-confidence.
